"Paging JAL 0734... JAL 0734"
From Tokyo Narita to Singapore.
Time of Arrival: 1745 hours.
The clock was ticking, and as the plane touched down and opened its doors 10 excited children from Japan shouted with glee and screamed as they ran to see Frosty the Snowman!
Thanks to 12 amazing big brother and big sister volunteers, we managed a trip to see the Orchard Road christmas light-up. Our dedicated Japanese translator/big brothers/sisters managed to keep track of all 30 children running excitedly up and down the streets of crowded weekend orchard road, jumping up and down fountain steps, getting lost inside a lighted tree. It was exciting...and tiring. But we got such fantastic photos!
The next day...all these photos were translated into umbrella paintings.
"You'd better be nice...not naughty," Frosty warned...
So Yuna drew a great beautiful picture of Frosty! The best ever!
Frosty was so pleased...Yuna won first prize in our Umbrella Painting contest!
Then we shared a bit of local culture through a Malay Dance session followed by Hip-hop! It was just sooo much fun!
Then our friends from Japan taught us to create Digital Picture Stories using Japanese toys...and they brought enough toys for all of us to share and have loads of fun! Khairul Nizam mastered the spinning top!
Finally, we all went to watch ChildAid and all the children were ecstatic when the balloons dropped! All through the concert they were transfixed and awed by the performers. When they met their "Michael Jackson" performer at lunch the next day they wasted no time in getting him to show them how to moonwalk. Tsugoi!!!
The whole exchange ended with a trip to Chinatown and Merlion Park. The boys all bought sunglasses and posed with them - what a cool lot. They were so pleased with their purchase they decided to wear them in school at the same time - like a fashion walk. The girls bought presents for everyone...they were shy at first...but they cried when we had to say goodbye.
It was sad for me to see them off too....but I hope this will not be goodbye...
I'll stay cool till next year - so I can see them again...
xoxo
